Nightingales Pre-School and Daycare Centre was founded in 2001 by Qualified Nursing Sister (Dip. General, Psychiatric, and Community) and Midwife, Nicolette Nel. Conveniently situated at 13 High Street, The Wolds, New Germany, the school is easily accesable from all directions, as it is situated in close proximity to all major traffic routes.
Nightingales is a privately owned Christian-based Pre-School and ECD Centre, and is fully registered and licensed with The Dept. Of Education and the Dept. Of Health.
We cater for ages 3 Months to 6 Years. Besides our Baby and Toddlers Unit, Our formal ECD Program caters for Grade RRRR to Grade R. Nightingales is a feeder school to our local New Germany/ Pinetown Primary schools; as well as Durban Westville, and the Upper Highway Primary Schools. Our children are welcomed at these institutions, having received a firm foundation in ECD and the relevant educational programs.
Our structured ECD Curriculum follows the NELDS Outcomes Based Programme and aligns with the National CAPS framework.
Each child is treated as and individual, progressing at their own pace, with their own unique qualities and developing potential. Our flexable approach means that we can easily accommodate specific and unique individual needs, relating to each individual child.
Equal love and attention is afforded and displayed to all children in our care, and all communication types are embraced and adapted to in a sensitive and controlled manner.
We aim to provide community support with affordable, quality, and sustainable childcare and ECD services to young growing families. Nightingales offers added peace of mind to parents, having the benifit of a medically trained professional on-site during the school day.

Smaller School (Home away from home) with smaller classes - Ensuring no child gets lost in translation
2 Separate Astro-Turf Playgrounds - we implement staggered playtimes and do nòt allow our age groups to mix. This prevents unnecessary accidents and unintentional rough play.

Here at Nightingales, I aim to provide a stimulating and structured environment that also has a fun and nurturing atmosphere.
We encourage children to develop comfortably and at their own pace. Teaching skills such as taking responsibility, consistency, problem-solving, caring about themselves, and showing empathy and concern for others helps lay a strong and well-balanced foundation that will serve them well in their formative years.
It all starts with the building blocks in the foundation phase, which will become their frame of reference in the years to come. It matters what we do now…

Nightingales has been part of this community for 25 years, and I am proud to have played a key role in laying the foundation upon which many of our children have successfully built their lives.
I am proud to say that I have helped raise and mould children who are now giving back to society. Some have become qualified teachers, engineers, medical professionals, law professionals, entrepreneurs, physiotherapists, beauticians, and logistics and transport business owners, to name but a few…
I try to provide working parents with as much peace of mind as possible by ensuring that an attentive, observant, and medically proficient person is available to them, overseeing their children’s early development, education, and daily care.
My staff members are family and have been with me throughout this journey.
